Srinagar, May 24: The residents of Chana Mohalla, Aluchi Bagh Tuesday expressed deep resentment over perennial breakdown of drinking water supply, appealing Jal Shakti Department to address the technical hitches occurred in the area.
The locals said the water scarcity in the area is a new normal from last couple of years leading people to suffer badly. They said the frequent interruptions in drinking water supply in the area have taken heavy toll on the lives of residents.
“Either it is winter or summer, the water scarcity in the areas has become fate of the locals who have no alternative other than to remain lull hand folded before the situation”, the locals alleged.
They said the junction pipes laid near Rambagh Bund are often suffering from technical glitches and alleged “no official of the department bothers to address this grave issue on time”.
Ghulam Nabi, a local resident said during winters the water supply plays hide and seek while in summers the area is being left at the hands of the situation.
“Although every household is a regular payer of water tariff but still men and women are being forced to fetch drinking water from adjoining areas”, he said.
The locals said though they approached Jal Shakti Department multiple times for resolution of matter but officials there attributed the problem with some departmental issue.
“Why people in the area to suffer badly on account of departmental inaptness”, the locals questioned.
They requested to higher authorities of Jal Shakti Department to kindly intervene into the matter and resolve the water scarcity problem in the area forever.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Department, Basharat Jeelani Kawoosa said the consumers must lodge complaints online with the department so that they will be attended and addressed in a stipulated period of time.
He said once a consumer lodges complaint online, it becomes mandatory for ground staff to address the issue otherwise officials have to face the music.
He however maintained the problem in the area will be shared to concern staff for early resolution.
