Associate Professor John Abazoglow said the hybrid approach has major goals.
“To improve results in the face of continuous drought, this year we will again offer another stress test for conditions that highlight the need to find a solution for continuous water scarcity.” Said Abatzoglou.
The university is currently part of a multicenter collaboration working on solutions to ongoing challenges in the artificial intelligence or AI, ag industry.
“It’s a water, labor, weather and climate issue and we’re trying to put it all together. Technology to these worksites, the frontier of AI,” said Abatzoglou.
This institute is a collaborative effort involving faculty members and scientists with backgrounds such as computer science.
Four UC Merced professors will be part of the collaborators and laboratories, and at this time a small group of graduate students will participate in the study.
Doctoral student Anshika Kandhway is helping with the research. She hopes her work will have a lifelong impact.
“Being here is part of all these types of areas they are working on and is a great opportunity for both stakeholders and me,” said Candway.
The Ag-AID Institute works with local farmers during a four to five year research project.
Abatzoglou said these efforts and cooperation are essential.
“We will focus on the Central Valley issue and work with farmers, so much is happening here. It’s great to see these projects,” said Abazoglou. increase.
