Precautionary boil water advisory issued for parts of Gentilly, Oak Island Subdivision
Water pressures fell below 20 psi due to an emergency closure , officials say
The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for a limited portion of Gentilly and New Orleans East, which includes:Republic Street from Broad Street to St. Bernard AvenueThe entire Oak Island SubdivisionOfficials said Tuesday night, water pressures in this area fell below 20 psi due to an emergency closure of a 50-inch water transmission main. It served parts of Gentilly, New Orleans East, and the Upper and Lower Ninth Wards. Customers on Republic Street from Broad Street to St. Bernard Avenue should be the only blocks that are out of water due to the emergency repair on the 50-inch water main at St Bernard Avenue and Duels Street, according to officials.Officials are suggesting residents in the affected areas use bottled or boiled tap water to drink, cook, clean food or brush their teeth until further notice. Residents with compromised immune systems are also urged also use safe water to wash hands, shower or bathe.
