sundargarh: Cm Launches Projects For 2 Barrages In Sundargarh | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for two barrages on Ib river in Kopsingha and Kudabanga blocks in Sundargarh district through video conferencing on Monday.
These projects, to be constructed with an investment of Rs 493 crore, will be completed in two years and will benefit 47,000 people of four blocks of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Naveen said, “These two barrages can help irrigation of 488 hectares of farmland and provide drinking water to the households of four blocks, including Sundargarh Sadar, Lefripada, Balisankara and Tangarpali. The bridges on the barrages will improve direct connectivity between Lefripada and Tangarpali block with Rourkela.”
To address the water scarcity problem in Odisha, the chief minister announced construction of in-stream storage structure project worth Rs 11,700 crore in 30 districts. Construction of these barrages will facilitate perennial supply of water to farmlands and will maintain underground water levels.
The chief minister described Sundargarh as “a lighthouse of Odisha’s development. “Rourkela city, Rourkela Steel Plant and Rourkela NIT have increased the pride of Odisha. The memory of legendary Biju Patnaik is associated with these projects. Sundargarh has given many things to the country. It provided coal to empower India. Asia’s largest hockey stadium will come up in Sundargarh. The hockey players of Sundargarh have brought pride to the country. So an AIIMS is the right of people of Sundargarh,” Naveen added.
He also expressed happiness over the success of various government schemes, starting from Mission Shakti and his 5-T governance model in the education sector to the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Smart Health Card, in Sundargarh district.
The chief minister asked the people of Sundargarh to take advantage of the different development and welfare schemes of the state government and put in their contribution to “build a new Odisha”.
