Oman’s electricity generation rises 5.8%; water production up by 2%


Muscat: The total generation of electricity in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 5.8 percent to reach 34.281 gigawatts per hour until the end of the month September 2023 compared to 32.403 gigawatt hours during the same period in 2022.

The Governorates of North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah recorded an increase in total electricity generation by 4.3 percent to reach 22,076.3 gigawatts per hour, according to the data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The electricity generation in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate increased by 1,034.8 percent to reach 899.1 gigawatts per hour, while in Muscat Governorate, total generation increased by 36.8 percent, reaching 443.3 gigawatts per hour, and in Dhofar Governorate, by 14.8 percent to 3600.4 gigawatts per hour.

Total electricity generation decreased in North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah governorates increased by 5.3 percent to reach 6737.3 gigawatts per hour, while total production in Musandam Governorate increased by 7.5 percent reaching 327.7 Gigawatt per hour.

NSCI statistics further indicate that the Sultanate of Oman’s net electricity generation until the end of September 2023 rose 6 percent to 33,244.2 gigawatt per hour, as net electricity generation rose in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate by 1,016.9 percent, reaching 884.9 gigawatts per hour. It also increased in the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah, by 4.5 percent, reaching 21,378.2 gigawatts per hour, and net production in Muscat Governorate increased by 36.6 percent to reach 440.2 gigawatts per hour, and in Dhofar Governorate, 15.4 percent, reaching 3442.7 gigawatts per hour until the end of September 2023.

On the other hand, NSCI data showed that that total amount of water produced in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 2 percent to reach about 391.71 million cubic metres at the end of September 2023, compared to 384.90 million cubic metres in the same period of 2022.
