Water Crisis: Marathwada voters disillusioned as campaigners skip water crisis issue | Aurangabad News

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The vigorous poll campaign for Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed Lok Sabha seats in Marathwada ended on Saturday with authorities gearing up for voting on Monday.Top politicians of different political parties, including PM Narendra Modi, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena chief and CM Eknath Shinde, visited Marathwada multiple times with an appeal to voters for the victory of their candidates. At the local level, political workers paid door-to-door visits, held corner rallies and organised foot rallies to set the tone for the election. With political parties largely engaging in a war of words on issues other than the water crisis that has been a major concern in Aurangabad, Jalna as well as Beed, many voters said they were disillusioned with the campaigns. Nalini Washikar, a senior citizen from Aurangabad, said the politicians’ speeches missed the pressing local issues.“We were expecting debates on constituency-related issues, but this proved a distant dream in yet another election,” she said. Social activist Vishnu Dhobale said the absence of issue-based campaigns could be the reason for poor voting percentage in the earlier poll phases.“The district headquarters of Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed face acute water scarcity. The situation is worse in the rural areas. Politicians cutting across the party lines have been mum on this. They have been raising national and state-level issues,” he said. While Aurangabad is witnessing a multi-corner fight with Sena’s Sandipan Bhumare, Chandrakant Khaire of Sena (UBT) and sitting AIMIM MP in the fray. Beed is seeing a straight fight between BJP’s Pankaja Munde and Bajrang Sonawane of NCP (SCP). In Jalna, sitting MP Raosaheb Danve of BJP is taking on former Congress MLA Kalyan Kale.
